Otago Central Rail Trail
The Miner's Cottage adjoins the Otago Rail Trail at Tiroiti, 6 kms north from Hyde. The cottage provides secluded two person accommodation in a private garden setting adjoining a stream.
The section of the Otago Rail Trail from Daisy Bank to Hyde is considered one of the most picturesque and interesting parts of the Rail Trail. From Daisy Bank the Rail Trail runs beside the Taieri river as it breaks out of the Maniototo Plain and through the Tiroiti gorge into the Strath Taieri Plain. The Tiroiti valley features old volcanic activity together with man made rail features such as the original Capburn Railway Bridge, the spectacular Prices Creek Viaduct and the curved 152 m Prices Creek tunnel together with the old miner's river diversion tunnel dug by Chinese gold miners in the 1880’s.
The Miner's Cottage accommodation at Tiroiti is ideally situated for this prime section of the Rail Trail whether you are completing just this short section or riding the entire trail. We are located 34 kms from Middlemarch or 6 kms from Hyde making this the perfect location for either the first or last night's stop on your journey along the Otago Rail Trail.
